GRIA v5.1 Core Packages Released

Major new releases of the core GRIA Client, Client Management, Service Provider Management, and Basic Application Services packages are now available for download

GRIA 5.1 is now available for download from www.gria.org. The GRIA 5.1 release provides significant new features and usability enhancements to both the management packages and the client. The core infrastructure stack has been further aligned with key Web Service security and policy specifications.

The Client Management Package has been rearchitected and now includes new Membership and Registry services that work together to allow organisations to manage their resources locally, and control who within their organisation (or organisations they partner with) can access them. Previous GRIA versions supported local management of account and SLA resources but now this has been extended to any type of resource (account, SLA, data, job, subscription, etc). The Membership service is a token service that allows managers to maintain groups of users and allows those users to obtain assertions of their membership. This is used in conjunction with the Registry service to allow project managers to share and monitor usage of distributed resources required by project teams.

The Registry service supports contextualised service discovery, allowing querying for resources within management contexts. The registry allows clients to submit queries such as "Find SLAs for providing Application X where the CPU seconds in the SLA is greater than 1000 and the Usage of the SLA with respect to the used disk space is lower than 500MB". The registry is able to cope with any business context or resource as far as its metadata can be represented in XML. It supports the dynamic addition of new business contexts and new relationships between these contexts.

The SLA service component of the Service Provider Management Package has been significantly updated to provide optimised application usage monitoring and usability enhancements. New Capacity and SLA Template editors are provided to allow service providers to update their available resources easily and to author and publish new offerings to customers.

The Client Package has been significantly enhanced for improved usability. Users can now navigate resources using service and resource relationship views. Users can also filter resources based on current resource state.

Even with all of these enhancements GRIA 5.1 is compatible with previous GRIA 5.x releases. In addition, users with existing GRIA 5.x installations are provided with an automated upgrade capability executed when GRIA is deployed within the service container.

GRIA 5.1 makes service-oriented collaboration easy for both consumer and service provider.
